New Republican Senators Want Delay in New START Vote

Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nev. , center, and Sen. Debbie Stabenow, D-Mich. , left, walk on Capitol Hill in Washington, Tuesday, Nov. 16, 2010.

Ten incoming “Republican senators wrote Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nev.) to ask that Senate consideration of the New START treaty wait until next year,” The Hill reports.

"Out of respect for our states’ voters, we believe it would be improper for the Senate to consider the New START Treaty or any other treaty in a lame duck session prior to January 3, 2011," the incoming senators wrote in a letter released Thursday.

The treaty needs 67 votes for ratification.
