Isakson Not Expected Back This Week

Senator Johnny Isakson (R-GA), who was “admitted to an Atlanta hospital Monday for dehydration and diagnosed with a bacterial infection, will not be back to work in Washington, D.C., this week,” Roll Call reports.

“Senator Isakson continues to feel better but doctors want him to remain in the hospital for at least a few more days while they try to determine the source of the bacterial infection,” Deputy Chief of Staff Joan Kirchner said in an e-mail. “Without knowing the specific cause, it will take longer to ensure that it is completely out of his system.”

Kirchner added that doctors at Northside Hospital “are pleased with the progress” but that Isakson will not be back at work this week. “Even after he is discharged from the hospital, doctors have told him he will need to rest because bacterial infections take lots of time and rest to recover from,” she said.

Update (3/25): He’s been released from the hospital.
