Senator Bernie Sanders (I-VT) “broke the $1 million fundraising mark last quarter with a surge of contributions between January and March, according to a report his campaign provided Tuesday,” the Burlington Free Press reports.
As of March 31, the Vermont independent had $1.05 million for his 2012 re-election bid, doubling his total from the end of last year, according to his Federal Election Commission report.
Sanders raised most of his money in the two most recent quarters. He raised $485,003 in the fourth quarter of 2010 and $770,296 during the first three months of this year. The money started flowing after Dec. 10, when he spoke on the Senate floor for more than eight hours against tax cuts for the wealthy.
