Arizona Senate: Franks Could Announce Candidacy on Saturday

Representative Trent Franks (R-AZ) “is planning to announce his candidacy for U.S. Senate this Saturday, according to two Republicans with knowledge of the roll out,” David Catanese reports.

An adviser to Franks would only confirm that the congressman will hold an event to outline his 2012 plans following a fundraiser for the Arizona Republican Party in Scottsdale Saturday.

But two other GOPers with ties to state party politics indicated Franks is poised to launch a campaign to the right of Rep. Jeff Flake, who is managing the blowback from his recent decision to abandon his support for immigration legislation that included an amnesty provision.

Update (4/1): He’s decided not to run.
