Alan Khazei, the “City Year co-founder who ran for senate in , filed paperwork today to ‘test the waters for a possible run for public office,’ according to 527 papers filed with the IRS to form a 2012 exploratory committee,” the Boston Herald reports.
Rumors have long circulated that Khazei would take on U.S. Sen. Scott Brown, though he remained mum on the issue when asked by the Herald recently. Khazei nabbed 13 percent of the Democratic vote on a tight budget during the special election, losing to Attorney General Martha Coakley. Gov. Deval Patrick recently told the National Journal that Khazei and Newton Mayor Warren Setti are “in for sure” in what’s expected to be a hotly contested race.
