Coburn, Begich Seek to End ‘Orphaned’ Earmarks

Senators Tom Coburn (R-OK) and Mark Begich (D-AK) have introduced legislation that would “retract earmarks that remain 90 percent or more unused nine years after funds have first been appropriated,” The Hill reports.

The recovered funding would “be used to reduce the nation’s deficit.” They say the bill could save “between $500 million to $1 billion.”
