On NBC’s “Meet the Press” today, Senator John Kerry (D-MA) was asked how, with all “the nation’s intelligence gathering, the administration could still be surprised by the events in Egypt,” POLITICO reports.
Kerry said Tunisia sparked the Egyptian revolution and social media fanned the flames that helped it spread.
“There’s no surprise that there was pent-up demand. No surprise that we needed to have reform,” Kerry said. “I don’t think anybody, even in Egypt, knew it would happen when it did.”
Kerry is Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.
