Senator Dick Lugar (R-IN) “is sitting on a war chest of $2.3 million and he says it’s growing by the week ahead of what’s expected to be a tough primary challenge from the right in 2012,” The Hill reports.
Lugar has already held a handful of fundraisers in the new year, including one last week that netted him close to $400,000 for his reelection bid.
“We had another fundraiser yesterday morning,” Lugar told Ballot Box Wednesday. “I’m having fundraisers, not every day, but I would just say this is a good deal more preparation than any other candidate in Indiana has made.”
Lugar is expected to receive a primary challenge from Indiana State Treasurer Richard Mourdock, who may make a formal announcement later this month.
