Rand Paul Supports Cuts to Israel Assistance

Senator Rand Paul (R-KY) “is calling for deep cuts in foreign aid, including eliminating U.S. money for Israel, a plan that has drawn criticism from Democrats and Republicans,” the AP reports.

The tea party-backed Paul unveiled a budget proposal this week that would slash overall government spending by $500 billion, saying the growing debt requires nothing less. It makes significant cuts in education, energy and defense while eliminating some agencies.

The Kentucky senator also is calling for cutting billions from foreign aid, and told CNN he would end the $3 billion in foreign military assistance to Israel.

The Republican Jewish Coalition called the idea misguided. Rep. Nita Lowey of New York, the top Democrat on the Appropriations subcommittee on foreign operations, said the U.S. can’t renege on an ally.

You cut aid to any other country but leave aid to Israel alone or God will punish this country for turning our backs onIsrael

Eliminating aid to Israel would abandon a key ally in a dangerous region at a turbulent time. Such a cut would betray our highest principles, endanger our nation, and, in the long run, end up costing us far more.
Our military aid to Israel enables Israel to maintain its qualitative edge over its enemies. The minute that Israel’s enemies believe they can destroy Israel, they will do so. Then, we will likely see this stable outpost of democracy turned into another anti-American terrorist base. If you look at how much we have spent in both American blood and treasure to try to build democracies in Iraq and Afghanistan, you will begin to understand the bargain that is our aid to Israel. There are many other countries for which to cut spending.
Also, Planned Parenthood does not need my taxpayer dollars to kill unborn babies. CUT AID TO PLANNED PARENTHOOD! How many million taxpayers have been killed before birth? Probably enough to make a difference in our naional debt and social security system.

Please do not betray our high moral calling. Please do not saddle our children with greater danger and, ultimately, greater debt. Please abandon your call to end aid to Israel.
