Michigan Senate: Anuzis Considering Run?

Senator Debbie Stabenow (D-MI) “may have some competition in her 2012 re-election bid from a familiar face as Michigan Republican party leader Saul Anuzis considers his next move,” the Detroit Free Press reports.

Anuzis, who lost his second bid for chair of the Republican National Committee to Reince Priebus, who runs the GOP party in Wisconsin, said on “Michigan Matters” he was considering a run against the Democratic leader.

“I haven’t ruled anything out,” said Anuzis, who has spent a big chunk of his time since losing the top GOP job to Michael Steele two years ago to try and win it.

Anuzis, former “chair of Michigan’s Republican Party, is heading to Washington this week to sit with Priebus and Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell to discuss his options.”

Other names “floating in political circles to possibly take on Stabenow include former Gov. John Engler, who recently bought a home in the Lansing area fueling speculation, and businessman Tim Leuliette.”
