A federal judge “on Tuesday cleared the way for Alaska election officials to declare Senator Lisa Murkowski the winner of the state’s Senate race,” the New York Times reports.
Ms. Murkowski ran as a write-in candidate after losing to Joe Miller in the Republican primary. Unofficial results have showed her winning by more than 10,000 votes, but Mr. Miller has delayed certification through legal challenges, arguing that write-in votes must be spelled perfectly. The Alaska Supreme Court ruled against him last week. On Tuesday, Judge Ralph R. Beistline of United States District Court dismissed his federal case. Shortly after the ruling, the state announced it had certified the results. It later corrected the announcement to say it would certify the race on Thursday.
