Hatch Will Oppose New START

Senator Orrin Hatch (R-UT), a “member of the Senate Select Committee on Intelligence, announced today that he will oppose the New START Treaty,” according to a press release from his office.

“For the first time in history, a major treaty is being jammed through during a lame duck session of Congress.  This isn’t just any treaty, but one that has national security implications for our country and our people.  Denying the bipartisan group of newly-elected Senators the right to vote on this treaty, while granting that power to those who won’t be here in January, is in my opinion wrong.

“Pushing this through right now during this lame duck session of Congress is not how the American people want Congress to operate.  Under these circumstances, I feel I have no other choice than to oppose this treaty at this time.”

Just for a moment lets change the players — the republicans are in control of the United States Senate and want to get this START treaty approved and the democrats are opposing the approval. Can you just imagine what the republicans would be calling the democrats UNAMERICAN AND WEAK ON DEFENSE. The republicans are grand standing because they’ve gotten away with it for years. The democrats need to start a bit of name calling themselves and call the republicans UNAMERICAN AND WEAK ON DEFENSE. I’m going to start HATCH you’re UNAMERICAN AND WEAK ON DEFENSE.
