An amendment offered by Senator David Vitter (R-LA) to the 2010 Commerce, Justice, Science and Related Agencies Appropriations Act (H.R. 2847) has been tabled by a vote of 61 to 38.
It would withhold COPS (Community Oriented Policing Services) funds from so-called “sanctuary cities.”
A press release further notes that the amendment would prevent such funds “from going to cities with sanctuary policies that bar local law enforcement officials from inquiring about the immigration status of suspects or reporting illegal aliens to Immigration and Custom Enforcement for deportation.”
