Rockefeller, Hutchison Place Hold on Surface Transportation Board Nominee

Senate Commerce, Science and Transportation Chairman Jay Rockefeller (D-WV) and Ranking Member Kay Bailey Hutchison (R-TX) “put a hold Wednesday on Dan Elliott, President Barack Obama’s nominee for the Surface Transportation Board, after the United Transportation Union bragged that its political action committee contributions were in part responsible for the pick,” Roll Call reports.

Update (8/7): Both Senators have “relented after receiving a profuse apology from the United Transportation Union for comments suggesting its political muscle and contributions had influenced the appointment,” Congressional Quarterly. The nomination was unanimously confirmed today.
