A senior Republican aide tells Reuters that Senate Republicans “would allow a vote on a short-term funding bill to avert a federal shutdown — if a bipartisan deal is reached on Friday to fund the government for the rest of this fiscal year.”
The aide said Republicans would clear the way for such a stopgap funding measure to permit enough time, perhaps a few days, for a deal to be passed by Congress and sent to President Barack Obama to sign into law.
