Durbin Skeptical of Filibuster Reform Effort Being Pushed by Tom Udall

Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-IL) says “he is hesitant to support New Mexico Democratic Sen. Tom Udall’s attempt to limit the filibuster in the 112th Congress,” Roll Call reports.

Durbin said that without the filibuster, President George W. Bush would likely have succeeded in privatizing Social Security.

“We have to find a reasonable way to continue the protection of minority rights in the United States government but beyond the abuses that are seen today,” he said.

He spoke at the “America’s Future Now! conference at Washington, D.C.’s Omni Shoreham Hotel.”
