CBO Score of Finance Committee Health Bill Released

Congressional budget experts “say the Senate Finance Committee’s health care overhaul would cost $829 billion over 10 years,” the AP reports.

The Congressional Budget Office also projects that the latest version of the Finance bill would cover 94 percent of Americans, excluding illegal immigrants.

The new cost estimate is good news for Democrats. The bill would be fully paid for through a mix of spending cuts and tax increases.

The Congressional Budget Office “added that the measure would reduce federal deficits by $81 billion over a decade and probably lead to ‘continued reductions in federal budget deficits’ in the years beyond.”

Release of the cost estimate “means that Finance Committee Chairman Max Baucus can call his committee together for a final vote on the bill, clearing the way for overhaul legislation to go to the full Senate.”

The score is linked here.  It’s worth nothing that Congressional Budget Office Director Douglas Elmendorf describes this as a “preliminary analysis” because the bill “has not yet been embodied in legislative language.”

One Response to CBO Score of Finance Committee Health Bill Released

I don’t get it. How can anyone say the Baucus bill scored well and is positive health care legislation?
The Democrats are smoke and mirrors, folks…that’s what it’s all about. And they think the American people are stupid enough to buy it. Only those that blindly follow the Anointed One and march in lockstep with liberal fascism are buying it because anyone with even a modicum of logic isn’t. How does a $800 billion pus program save $81 billion dollars? It doesn’t. Back to smoke and mirrors…Democrats plan on paying for this socialistic monstrosity through massive tax increases ($506 billion as listed in the fine print) and massive cuts to Medicare (of well over $400 billion) at the same time as massively expanding enrollment into Medicaid (the health care program for the “poor” and an unfunded mandate on the states). Welcome to Communism…spreading the wealth, confiscation of income through massive taxation, mandated participation…all under the watchful eye of Big Brother.

Also, the Baucus bill will still leave 25 million uninsured. I thought the reason, given by Obama and the Dimocrats for blowing up and destroying our current health care system was to get the uninsured insured. So much for that lie.

Don’t forget folks, the CBO historically underestimates the cost of legislation. Their cost projections should really be starting points. Remember, the CBO years ago said Medicare would cost $12 billion by 1990. It ended up being $107 billion – nine times the government estimate. So, that $830 BILLION cost projection for the Baucus bill will realistically end up a whole lot more.
