An amendment offered by Senator John McCain (R-AZ) to the 2010 Department of Defense Appropriations Act (H.R. 3326) has been defeated by a vote of 34 to 64. The vote actually occurred on a motion to waive a budget point of order against the amendment.
According to a floor statement made by Mr. McCain, the amendment cuts “$2.5 billion that this bill uses to fund ten C-17 Globemaster aircraft – planes which the Secretary of Defense says the Pentagon does not need and that the President did not ask for – and restores that money to the critical operations and maintenance (O&M) accounts that support military training, readiness, flying and steaming hours, and depot maintenance so crucial to our Armed Forces in wartime.”
