Senators have adopted, by Voice Vote, an amendment to the Legislative Branch Appropriations Act (H.R. 2918) as offered by Senator Jim DeMint (R-SC).
It would, among other things, authorize the engraving of the slogan “In God We Trust” and the Pledge of Allegiance in the new Capitol Visitors Center (CVC). They are to be “prominently displayed.”
Senator DeMint argued that references to the religious heritage of America had been “conspicuously ignored” in the construction of the CVC.
He said this process would cost around $150,000.
