A Puerto Rican civil rights leader “says his group is ready to start sending a trove of documents from Supreme Court nominee Sonia Sotomayor’s past to the Senate panel considering her nomination,” the AP reports.
LatinoJustice PRLDEF President Cesar Perales says he’s sending the Judiciary Committee minutes of meetings Sotomayor participated in as a board member of the group from 1980 until 1992. The organization is also coughing up pleadings in cases it handled while Sotomayor headed its litigation group.
Conservatives and Republicans have criticized Sotomayor’s involvement with the group, which crusaded for bilingual education, strongly supported abortion rights and opposed the death penalty.
