Senator Tom Coburn (R-OK) will “officially announce Monday in Tulsa his decision about whether he will seek re-election,” the Tulsa World reports.
Staff members for Coburn for Senate 2010 put out an advisory on Friday stating that the Oklahoma Republican would hold a press conference at 10 a.m. Monday at the Tulsa Press Club, 415 S. Boston Ave.
Coburn has been something of a moving target over his re-election plans, but he told a recent gathering of conservatives in New York that he would announce his intentions June 1.
Dr. Coburn’s 2010 campaign “has not been all that active, but money should not be a factor.”
He is an incumbent, and incumbents historically have the upper hand when it comes to raising money.
Moreover, he would not be expected to draw a Republican challenger, and so far no Democrat has stepped forward to announce a challenge.
Update (6/1): Coburn announced today that he would seek another Senate term in 2010.
