Arkansas State Senator Kim Hendren, a Republican, says “he will run for the U.S. Senate seat now held by Democrat Blanche Lincoln,” the AP reports.
Hendren told The Associated Press on Saturday that he planned on making a formal announcement for his bid later, but wanted to begin the process of seeking the seat now. Hendren ran as a Democrat against then-Attorney General Bill Clinton in the 1982 election. The Gravette businessman is now serving as a Republican in the state Senate.
Senator Lincoln “is viewed as more vulnerable by Republicans but she’s already built up a $2.3 million war chest.”
