Although she initially declined a run against Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) in 2010, Florida Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink is now reconsidering a run for the U.S. Senate after Martinez declined a bid for another term. National Democrats see her as the top candidate statewide in a potential match-up against former Florida Governor Jeb Bush.
Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-NV) and Senator Bob Menendez (D-NJ), who now chairs the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee, met in D.C. with Sink recently.
The Miami Herald reports:
Chief Financial Officer Alex Sink, the only Democrat serving in Florida’s Cabinet, met recently in Washington with Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid and New Jersey Sen. Bob Menendez, the chamber’s point man for the 2010 election. She’s clearly the national party’s top choice to run for the seat to be vacated by Republican Sen. Mel Martinez.
Two other potential Democratic contenders, U.S. Reps. Kendrick Meek and Allen Boyd, made sure to make appearances yesterday in Tallahassee when party leaders officially cast Florida’s 27 electoral votes for Barack Obama.
Still another would-be candidate, Dan Gelber of Miami Beach, a state representative who recently joined the Florida Senate, hasn’t taken down his ambiguously titled “Dan Gelber for Senate” web site.
ALEX SINK IS IN BED WITH OBAMA-BAD FOR AMERICA!!!!
yay! Alex Sink!
