The Senate has passed a bill (HR 6867) to extend unemployment benefits by Voice Vote . Prior to that vote, a cloture motion was passed by a vote of 89 to 6 which was sufficient enough to allow final passage.
The bill would provide seven additional weeks of unemployment benefits to those whose benefits have run out. In states with an unemployment rate above six-percent, benefits would be extended for thirteen weeks on top of the regular twenty-six weeks. The bill will cost around $6 billion.
President Bush will sign this bill, which has already been passed by the House, into law.
I am thankful for the 7 week extension yet why is it we have to wait 2 weeks afer the exhausted benefits to receive this? It is 2 weeks before christmas and as a single parent this is devastating. this puts you behind in just about all bills. cant the government just let it go for those who have no job or monies at the present? thank you for your response..
I was notified that my benefits would be extended and I have been calling and trying to get info on the computer but have had no luck. It is now almost four weeks that I have been trying and have had no answer. Why bother to tell me if I can’t even get anyone to talk to me and I can’t get any help on the computer. It is really bull. From Georgia.
