Agreement Reached on Housing Proposal Vote

The Senate’s leadership has reached an agreement on moving forward with a vote on the housing stimulus package (S. 2636). A vote will now occur later this afternoon on a procedural motion to begin debate on the bill. The motion will require 60 affirmative votes to pass before any debate can begin.

Republican members may not support this motion unless agreements can be reached that would include the consideration of amendments they wish to offer to the bill. Majority Leader Reid (D-NV) objected earlier today to an agreement that would give each side the ability to call up five amendments.

Given the developments on this housing issue, the Senate has agreed to withdraw all further action on the terrorism report bill (S. 2634) offered by Senator Feingold (D-WI).
